Frequently Asked Questions
Common questions about how GCSESpark works, how we handle safety and privacy, and what to expect from AI tutoring.
Getting started
What is GCSESpark?
GCSESpark is an AI-powered GCSE tutoring companion designed to help you revise topics, practise questions, and get step-by-step explanations.
Which subjects and topics does GCSESpark support?
GCSESpark supports GCSE study across subjects and topics available in the app. If a subject or topic isn’t listed yet, it may be added over time.
Do I need an account to use GCSESpark?
Most features require an account so we can save your sessions and settings. Some public information pages (like Terms, Privacy, and this FAQ) are available without signing in.
Learning and AI
How accurate are the answers?
AI can make mistakes. Treat responses as learning support, not a definitive source. For high-stakes work, verify with trusted materials (your teacher, textbooks, and exam board resources).
If something looks wrong, ask follow-up questions ("show the steps", "check the units", "explain why") and compare with a mark scheme.
Can GCSESpark help with exam practice and mark schemes?
Yes. You can ask for practice questions, step-by-step solutions, and feedback-style guidance. If you paste a question, include the full text and any diagrams described so the explanation is accurate.
Is it allowed to use GCSESpark for homework?
GCSESpark is intended to help you learn, not to replace your work. Use it to understand topics and improve your answers.
Don’t submit AI-generated work as your own assessed work. Follow your school’s academic integrity rules.
See Acceptable Use Policy for more.
Does GCSESpark remember what I learned previously?
GCSESpark may use your saved sessions and settings to help you continue where you left off.
For how we handle data and retention, see Privacy Notice and Data Retention.
Accounts, privacy, and security
What data does GCSESpark collect?
We collect the information needed to operate the service (for example account details, usage information, and study sessions).
Details are in the Privacy Notice.
Do you sell student data?
No. GCSESpark does not sell personal data. See the Privacy Notice for more.
Can I delete my account or request my data?
In many cases you can request access, export, or deletion (subject to legal and operational requirements).
For how long we keep data and how deletion requests work, see Data Retention.
Do you use cookies?
Yes, we use cookies for essential functionality (like login) and may use other cookies depending on features. Details are in our Cookie Policy.
Safety, parents, and schools
Is GCSESpark suitable for under-18s?
GCSESpark is designed for GCSE learners (typically Years 10–11). Users under 18 should involve a parent/guardian.
For our approach to child safety, see Safeguarding & Child Safety.
How does GCSESpark support schools and institutions?
We aim to be procurement-friendly with clear documentation, data retention information, and a safety posture appropriate for learners.
What if the AI generates something inappropriate or unsafe?
We take safety seriously and work to reduce unsafe outputs, but no AI system is perfect.
If you see something concerning, stop and seek help from a trusted adult or your school. For more on our approach, see Safeguarding & Child Safety and AI Transparency.
Billing and plans
How does billing work?
Billing details, renewals, and cancellations are described in Billing & Cancellations.
